Camouflage Cupcakes!

Duck Dynasty fans
Here is a recipe for Camouflage Cupcakes.
Be sure to share to your page or tag yourself so you will have the recipe for future reference.

source: Crafty Mama

Camouflage Cupcakes!

Start out with 2 box mixes, one chocolate, one white.
Divide the batter into 4 bowls.
1. White batter.
2. White batter with green food coloring and a dash of chocolate batter.
3. Equal parts chocolate and white batter.
4. Chocolate batter.
Mix the different batters together until you get the colors you want. I ended up with a lot more chocolate batter than the rest of the colors, but I ended up making a few plain chocolate cupcakes to use it up.
Line a cupcake tin with paper liners.
For the batter, you can either use spoons and dump little blobs of each color into each wrapper, or you can get fancy and use pastry bags. I chose to get fancy with bags. It makes filling the cupcakes tins a little easier and a little less messy.
Just drop a bunch of blobs in each wrapper until they’re all about 3/4 of the way full. Bake according to the directions on the box.
Once the cupcakes are done baking, pop them out of the tins so they can start cooling.

Use this recipe for icing.
1. Diving the icing into 3 bowls.
2. Keep one batch white/ivory.
3. The other bowl you will add a little bit of green food coloring and a little bit of cocoa powder until it’s the desired color.
4. The last bowl you will add cocoa powder until it’s the desired color brown.
5. For the fancy swirled icing, take 3 pastry bags.
6. Fill each bag with it’s own color of icing.
7. Take all 3 bags and put them into 1 larger bag with a start tip in it.
Pipe a swirl onto the tops, and you’re done!

Homemade Krispy Kremes — Yes, this is the actual recipe!

Ingredients:
3 tbsp milk
3 tbsp boiling water
1 tsp dry active yeast
8 oz all purpose flour (a little under 2 cups - I recommend you measure and weigh. See my note above)
1 1/2 oz sugar (about 3 tablespoons)
1 egg
1 oz butter, cold to room temperature (just don't melt it, okay?)
dash of salt

Enough oil to cover the bottom few inches of a wok, or a deep fryer.

Directions:
In a large measuring jug, combine the milk and boiling water. Add a teaspoon of the sugar and the yeast. Stir it gently, then leave it in a warm place for the yeast to activate (aka foam).
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, the rest of the sugar, and the salt. Cut in the butter using your fingers or a pastry blender, until it resembles crumbs.
Add the egg (give it a quick beat) and yeast mixture to the flour mix, and mix into a smooth dough. This usually takes about 5 minutes of mixing.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly-floured counter and knead for about 5 to 10 minutes—it should feel springy and little bubbles should form under the surface. Place it back in the bowl, cover with a cloth or plastic wrap, and let rise for about an hour until double in size.
Once risen, place the dough onto the counter and cut it into 4 pieces. One piece at a time, stretch it into a long rope about an inch to an inch and a half wide. Cut strips about an inch long, ball em up with your hands, and place them on a baking tray or wire rack to wait.
Cover the doughnuts holes with a cloth to rise while you heat the oil to 375F.
Place the doughnuts into the oil and fry until golden brown on each side, about 2 minutes. Be sure to fry only a few at a time so they don’t overcrowd and stick together.
Drain on a paper towel or wire rack over a cloth, before glazing them. Be sure to glaze them warm, or else they won’t get that delicious coverage!

Glaze:
1/3 cup butter
2 cups confectioners' sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
4 tablespoons hot water or as needed

A brief note: I recommend a scale, as not all flours (and cup measurements) are made equal.
2 cups of my Canadian flour in my Canadian cups on my scale might be more or less than yours.
If you don't have a scale, start at 1 1/2 cups and work your way up from there.

Bake at 375 degrees for approximately 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool for 1 minute in the pan, then invert onto a serving platter and enjoy!

Fruit Salsa and Baked Cinnamon Chips

Fruit Salsa and Baked Cinnamon Chips
For the fruit salsa:
2 kiwis, peeled and diced
2 Golden Delicious apples – peeled, cored and diced
8 oz raspberries
1 (16 oz) carton of strawberries, diced
2 tbsp white sugar
1 tbsp brown sugar 3 tbsp fruit preserves, any flavor (I used strawberry; would only use 2 tbsp next time)
For the cinnamon chips:
10 (10 inch) flour tortillas melted butter or butter flavored cooking spray
For the cinnamon sugar:
1 cup white sugar 2 tbsp cinnamon
Instructions:
1. In a large bowl, thoroughly mix kiwis, apples, raspberries, strawberries, white sugar, brown sugar, and fruit preserves. Cover and chill in the refrigerator at least 15 minutes while the oven preheats to 350 degrees.
2. Coat one side of each flour tortilla with melted butter or butter flavored cooking spray. Sprinkle tortillas with desired amount of cinnamon sugar, cut into wedges, and arrange in a single layer on a large baking sheet. Spray again with cooking spray (not necessary if using melted butter).
3. Bake in the preheated oven 8 to 10 minutes. Repeat with any remaining tortilla wedges. Allow to cool approximately 15 minutes. Serve with chilled fruit mixture. This salsa can also be served with cinnamon graham crackers or cinnamon pita chips. Best when made and eaten the same day otherwise the fruit gives off so too much juice and it gets runny.

7UP Biscuits Recipe

2 cups Bisquick
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup 7-up
1/4 cup melted butter
Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
Cut the sour cream into your biscuit mix using a fork or your hands
Stir in 1/2 cup 7 Up. The dough will be very soft, don't worry.
Sprinkle additional baking mix on to your counter, about a 1/2 cup seems to work just fine.
Knead and fold dough until coated with your baking mix. Pat dough out, (no rolling pin needed) and cut biscuits using a round biscuit/cookie cutter. Don't have one, no problem, use a glass or empty soup can.
Melt butter in a 9 inch square pan. just stick your pan and butter in the oven for a few minutes. Just a few though, the butter will burn, so watch it.
Place cut biscuits on top of melted butter and bake for 12-15 minutes or until brown.

Sugar Hand scrub - love scrubs like this!

Sugar Hand scrub - love scrubs like this!
GREAT GIFT IDEA! - make, put in mason jar, tie with bow, add a tag!
Fill mason jar 3/4 of the way full with sugar. Then add dawn dish soap (I use the pink one that has the olay in it, smells good and moisturizes) until it reaches just below the mouth of the jar.
Stir the sugar and soap together until it is paste like. If it seems to be too runny, add a little sugar at a time until it is the desired consistency. You can tie with a jute twine or ribbon and give as a gift, or do like me and hog it all for yourself!! So cheap and easy!!

Chocolate Covered S’mores on a Stick {recipe}

chocolate covered s'mores on a stick

If you are looking for a fun and easy Valentine’s day treat these are delicious!  I created these chocolate covered s’mores on a stick the other day trying to use up items in our cabinet.  If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook you may remember me telling you about the heart shaped sprinkles available in the Target dollar bin right now.  They are cute and perfect for some fun Valentine’s Day treats so stock up!  These would be perfect tied up in plastic bags with a cute bow to be handed out to your very own Valentine’s.  I’m not even going to pretend that these were given away.  We ate every last one of them.  Oh, yes we did.

So, here is how you can make these delicious treats and pass them out to your lovies or keep them for your very own!

First you will need to resist the urge to dig into the chocolate you are placing on top of the graham crackers.  Line up a dish and place the marshmallows on top.  These are going to bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.

s'mores in the oven

Once they come out of the oven you need to put the lollipop stick in the middle and squish it into the marshmallow.  Put another graham cracker on top and pop them in the freezer for about 15 minutes.

s'mores on a stick

Once your graham crackers are set and nothing is sliding off the stick you can melt down your chocolate chips using 30 second intervals and stirring in between.  I like to use a deep bowl so that it is easier to dip.  Swipe your s’mores through the melted chocolate, sprinkle and place on wax paper for drying.  You might need to use a spoon or knife to help you completely cover the s’mores.

Chocolate Covered S’mores on a Stick {recipe}

Ingredients

  • mini marshmallows (I used peppermint flavored because they are pink)
  • Hershey's chocolate pieces
  • honey Graham crackers
  • 1 bag dark or milk chocolate chips
  • lollipop sticks
  • sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Find a large flat dish and line it with Graham crackers (the amount of S'mores you want to make).
  3. Place a piece of chocolate on top of each.
  4. Place a handful of mini marshmallows on top of the chocolate. Make sure there are not so many that they will fall.
  5. Bake in the oven for about 10 minutes.
  6. Immediately place your lollipop stick into the marshmallow in the middle and press another Graham cracker on top. Repeat this process for all of the S'mores.
  7. Place them in the freezer for about 15 minutes or until you can pick up the stick without the graham crackers sliding off.
  8. In a microwave melt down the chocolate chips to a smooth consistency in a deep bowl using 30 second intervals and stirring in between.
  9. Begin dipping the s'mores into the chocolate and cover completely. You may need to use a spoon or knife in order to cover it well.
  10. Sprinkle the sprinkles all over the S'Mores.
  11. Place them on a sheet of wax paper until the chocolate has dried. It will likely take an hour or two before they are dried completely. If you are hoping to speed up the process you can place them in the refrigerator.

Biscuits, Sausage & Gravy Casserole

Need an excuse to plan a festive brunch? We think this recipe for Biscuits, Sausage and Gravy Casserole is just the ticket! Thanks to our friend at "The Tasty Fork" for the idea! http://bit.ly/TouFlx

I woke up Sunday morning with a craving for biscuits & gravy. I never had biscuits & gravy until I met my husband. We went to a southern inspired brunch spot and he ordered them for breakfast. He gave me a bite to try. My world was obviously not complete. How did I live for 20 something years without biscuits & gravy??

I knew if I wanted biscuits & gravy, I’d have to make them myself. We woke up late (after celebrating ANOTHER Notre Dame Football win!) and NFL games would be starting soon. I headed to the grocery store with a Sandra Lee like mentality. I was going to make my breakfast semi homemade style by using canned biscuits and dry gravy mix from the spice isle. I hoped I wouldn’t regret this decision — I’ve never used a gravy mix before, but I was hungry, so I was sure anything would taste good.

Sometimes you have to take life into your own hands.

I’m happy to report my little short cut worked out great! The casserole was filled with soft browned biscuits and the gravy was rich. And I know my judgement was blinded by hunger. I ate about half a bag of baked lays while I waited for this bad boy to bake. (30 minutes was pure torture, I needed a little appetizer.)

This casserole was a great thing to make for when you’re lazy or if you need to put something together fast. Heck, it’s pretty hardy — serve it for dinner if you’re into the Breakfast for Dinner kind of thing.

Leftovers warm up great, too! I had a 2nd helping of the casserole in the afternoon. And I can’t wait to eat the last of it for breakfast on Monday morning…. that is if my husband doesn’t claim it as his. Afterall, he did introduce me to biscuits & gravy….

Biscuits, Sausage & Gravy Casserole, serves 4 (2 biscuits per person)
Inspired by Pillsbury

  • 1 lb breakfast sausage, casing removed
  • 7 oz can of green chilies, mild
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 24 oz bag frozen potatoes (diced/cubed/hashbrowns — whatever you like!)
  • 10 oz can of diced tomatoes with chilies (I used Rotel)
  • Salt & Pepper
  • 1 package of dry gravy mix
  • 1 can of jumbo biscuits, 8 biscuits (Pillsbury Grands are great!)
  • 1/4 cup shredded cheese

Directions:

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a hot skillet, add sausage and chilies. Cook until the sausage is no longer pink.
  3. In a separate skillet, add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil, potatoes and canned tomatoes. Cook about 8 – 10 minutes. The potatoes don’t need to be browned, just done enough to hold their shape. Season with salt & pepper.
  4. Prepare the gravy — follow the directions on the packet.
  5. Grease a casserole dish and add 1/2 of the potato mixture. Place biscuits on top and add the rest of the potatoes, sausage and gravy. Top with a little cheese. Bake for 30 minutes. Let the casserole sit a few minutes before digging in.
