NASA Will Pay You $5,000 for Lying in a Bed.......Would you do it????

Astronaut-NASA.jpg

Saw this article today and all I could think was hmmm who would do this? Let me know in comments if you would! Sorry for some of the language but they are his words not mine, lol :)

Categories: News, Science

You sit around all day playing Candy Crush and bitching on Twitter about how Facebook sucks, so why not get paid a crapload of money while doing that? NASA is recruiting volunteers to lie in bed for 70 days to research the effects of microgravity on the human body.

Volunteers will be able to have visitors and even have access to TV and the internet.
JACKPOT.

The first part of the study will take place for two weeks while you loaf around, do normal stuff, and let scientists monitor you from time to time.

After that, you'll spend the next 70 days in a tilted bed. There you''ll have light for 16 hours a day, then darkness for eight hours a day.

You can shower but only in bed.

And, as noted above, you'll have access to computers, a TV, books, and the internet. You'll also be allowed visitors. NASA will provide you with food, but only enough to keep you at a constant weight.

Everything is done from your tilted bed, except for when scientists monitor your bone, muscle, and circulation as well as keep tabs on your immune system. There also will be some kind of workout routine called "countermeasure and function testing," which monitors how movements affect muscle size and cardio health.

Basically, the bed study is to help monitor the effects of microgravity, which is the kind of gravity you find in space. This minimal gravity has often made astronauts feel all wonky and crappy when they return to Earth -- basically because of loss of bone density and muscle strength.

And since you use very little gravity already -- except for when you go to the fridge to grab a beer and leftover chicken wings -- NASA figures you'd be a good test subject.

Of course, it's not as easy as it sounds. It's 70 straight days of lying in a bed with little to no activity. OH WHO ARE WE KIDDING THIS AMERICA WE DO THIS SHIT FOR FREE.

The 70 days is followed by a 14-day period where your body is rehabilitated and brought back to the shape you were in before the study.

If you're interested, you can apply for this dream job here.

And then be prepared to place your name among NASA's greatest pioneers, like Armstrong, Glenn, Lovell, and Aldrin... only a lot fatter and lazier and not in any way as heroic.

But otherwise, totally like them.

My Primitive Décor (Fireplace)

005

I picked this up at a local craft show. I had switched it to various places in my home but the last one was on the fireplace.

It says-

Here let us live life at it’s best. Here may your heart find comfort and rest.

On the other side of the fireplace I had my magazine holder that I bought at a country craft show.

We just sold our home that is in the photos. For now we have moved in with my mom. Our home we were going to purchase did not pass inspection. I am excited that in 3-4 months we will be moving into our new home and I will be able to decorate once again. My country curtains featured here had to stay with our old home so I am in search of new ones. I think I may have found something I like.

How do you decorate? What is your style?

It is Fall…..

Covered Bridge in Fall - Old Sturbridge Village, Massachusetts

It is that time of year again, the temperature is getting cooler, leaves are starting to change and you can tell that Fall is here. I love taking the kids to the park and seeing all the wonderful things this time of year. The leaves crunching under our feet have always been a comforting sound to me.  It is time for fires and hoodies. Last week I made some chili on a cooler day. I have not decorated my home for fall yet but think I may be purchasing some pumpkins soon. My debate this year is do we go with the real ones or do we purchase the craft ones? I have seen some really neat ideas on Pinterest. You can find me on Pinterest here.

Do you have a favorite thing about fall?

This photo is thanks to www.discovernewengland.org and is of Among the many historic buildings at Old Sturbridge Village, you can see the Covered Bridge that once stood in Dummerston, Vermont before being dismantled, transported, and re-erected here. Old Sturbridge Village is one of the country’s oldest and largest living history museums, depicting early New England life from 1790-1840 with historians in costume, antique buildings, water-powered mills, and a working farm. Visitors can view antiques, meet heritage breed animals, and enjoy hands-on crafts. The Village is open year-round, but hours change seasonally.

The View From Our Kitchen

012

When we moved into our home we had a large field of 20 acres behind us. (it is not ours it is owned by a company that will not be building on it) I was worried about putting blinds up or something covering the back sliding door….well we have now been here 8 years and I never did put anything up! I love sitting at the kitchen table or outside and seeing the wildlife.  In summer they let the field grow long…it has some wildflowers and then once a few days a year they come to bail the hay. I love the fact that we have the field behind us and a retention pond next to us so very few neighbors. My son can shoot his bb gun and both kids have bow and arrows. Even though we are in town it is just a little taste of the country that I miss.

What do you love most about your home or where you live?

Country Living

This photo is thanks to  www.myfourthirds.com

Found this photo today and it brings back memories of when I was much younger. (not our cabin but just reminded me of things when I took a look) We had a cabin in Eagle River Wisconsin (it was built by my grandfather) and we would always spend time there as a family in the summer. Driving there was always fun and we would stop by the local candy stores to buy some treats for our stay. (they are still there Country Store of Eagle River and Tremblay's Sweet Shop) The cabin was hidden off a road and had a winding driveway going to it. Surrounded by trees and a long trail in the back leading to the water. My brother and I would play in the woods for hours building forts and gathering wild blueberries to snack on. It was very primitive and we had a large barn and a outhouse. It was a place I will never forget and a place I wish I could have taken my kids. When I was around 9 my grandmother had to sell it I just remember crying the entire way home. The people that purchased our cabin knocked it down and built a modern day home. That was just unbelievable to me. Last summer we went to see my aunt who lives in Berlin Wisconsin and drove to the road that the cabin used to be on. We walked the street, took in the smells of all the pines. My kids could not understand what was so special about what used to be there. We could not get close enough for them to see the water from the street. Years ago they had cabins for rent but I really do not think they do that anymore. When we came home I shared many stories and showed them photos of the times at the cabin. My son really enjoyed about Uncle Jon and I setting up cans and shooting them with BB’s and fishing. I think my daughter would have loved sitting by the river, reading and using the boat to row to a little island and see the wildlife.  I hope in a few years we can look into renting a cabin…it won’t be the same as the one we knew growing up but I am sure that they can create there own memories and adventures.

Below is a actual photo from Eagle River this is thanks to http://www.city-data.com/picfilesc/picc23001.php

So as I finish writing this post I was curious what you spent your summers doing when you were younger? Did you have a place that was special to you and your family? I hope you are all enjoying the summer, it seems like school is coming fast. I want to enjoy the time we have left!
